I got my article on USA Today. It is about the DOW being down. One problem is that,”Oil prices slumped on Friday and broke below the key $30-a-barrel level, as concerns about Iranian supplies adding to a global surplus kept the market under pressure. Global markets are selling off with the Shanghai Composite now in a bear market.” The stock market could be leading to a crash if it does not pick-up soon. Here is what happened to DOW,”Around 11 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones industrial average was down about 400 points, or 2.5%, dipping back below 16,000 for the first time since August. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index dropped 2.4% and the Nasdaq composite index tumbled about 3.1%. Both indexes were also off their earlier lows.” This is very dangerous to our country and our world as to the fact that we trade with numerous countries around the world.

My article is from USA Today and its title is, “Afghanistan — the case for staying: Michael O’Hanlon.” Michael O’Hanlon presents a very good argument as to why we should keep our military in Afghanistan. O’Hanlon states, “The security situation in Afghanistan is bad. Yet it is hardly catastrophic. For example, Afghan security forces let Kunduz fall, but then they retook it within a couple weeks. They also repulsed coordinated Taliban probes against a number of other regional centers in the immediate aftermath of the Kunduz disaster. Earlier in the year, moreover, the Afghan army planned and conducted three major operations essentially on its own, two of them involving multiple corps (each corps is about 25,000 strong, and each has specific geographic responsibilities). The Taliban remains resilient and has gained some net holdings this year — but probably not more than 3% to 5% of the country as measured by affected population.” This was just one of his great points. Here is the link for the article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2015/12/28/afghanistan-obama-troops-withdraw-islamic-state-column/77795296/
I do agree with O’Hanlon while maintaining the idea that we should also keep our homelands security in mind when deploying troops.

My topic is about Alabama’s running back Derrick Henry. The title is, “Heisman Watch: It’s Derrick Henry’s award to lose.” This is from USA Today. Henry is in position to win the Heisman this year. He has had a exceptional year for Alabama and shows no sign of slowing down heading into playoffs. Alabama who is going to win the national championship will also hopefully have a Heisman winner as well. This really only effects the nation because it pertains to U.S. football.

My topic is about the Mali hostages being freed. I got this article on USA Today. The title is, “Hostages freed as Mali hotel siege ends; at least 3 dead.” The raddison blu hotel was taken over by Islamic extremeist who held close to 170 people hostage for 7 hours. The Malian forces were aided by U.S. and French Special Forces. The teams went floor by floor to retake the building. This makes me mad as it demonstates the growing effects of Islamic terrorism. We need to start a world wide campain to rid the world of this problem. This has around the 5th attck related to Islamic terror groups this month. This problem is grestly affecting the world, so I don’t understand why truly nothing is being done about it. Do we really not care?

My article is about the NCAA allowing a 7’6 man to play for UCF. This article can be found on USA Today, and the title is, “NCAA clears UCF 7-foot-6 recruit Tacko Fall to play.” His name is Tacko Falls and he is from Senegal. He had recently been ruled ineligible by the NCAA. Not in till a few days ago had Tacko been cleared to play. This is big considering the ‘Huge’ asset that he will be to UCF. Some schools may argue that he is not a american which could cause a laundry list of problems. I personally wish him well and can’t wait to see him play.

The topic of my article is a Star Wars waffle maker. I got this article on USA Today. The title is,”Eat the Dark Side With This Death Star Waffle Maker
That’s no moon… it’s a waffle.” The waffle maker makes a death star waffle. It will cost $39.99. It is made by ThinkGeek. It effects me because I will get one for Christmas. There is a new Star Wars movie coming out in December which effects the world because it will be shown world wide. I personally will go see this movie when it comes out because I love the Star Wars series. The waffle maker makes 7 inch waffles which is a fairly good sized waffle. There is also a line of light-saver themed cutlery.

The topic of my article is a possible ‘alien mega-structure.’ The title of my article is, “Search for ‘alien mega-structure’ on distant star underway.” I found this article on USA Today. My article is about a possible earth-like planet that could be emitting signals that could be picked up by satellites on earth. They discovered this planet by using light patterns. The planet is 1400 light-years away in our galaxy. I feel very split about this discovery. I think it is very cool that we found this but it also worries me that this could be bad. This event could affect me if alien life were to react. This could make a alien invasion possible. This could impact the world if aliens were to be discovered. They could be good. They could be bad. If they were good then they could help further earth and give us new technology. If they were bad then… well… you know what could happen.

People of New York Reaction

“I lost my ID twenty years ago, and haven’t been able to get a new one, so technically I don’t exist. But for the record— I do exist, my name is Paul Ambrose, I was born on July 4th, 1948, I grew up in Tennessee, and on the day Martin Luther King was killed, I said ‘Forget this,” and bought a bus ticket to New York because it was $20 cheaper than a ticket to California.”

This is my favorite story because this man is a free spirit and does what he want. He decided to hop on a train and go to a city to make a life for himself. To me that shows courage and determination, what else do you need if you have that.

Security Breach Leads to Emergency Meeting

Due to a breach in security that lead to lost files, the school board will hold a emergency meeting on Friday February 6th, to vote on renting computers for the journalism department to use to complete the yearbook.

For 22 years the school has sponsored a “Yearbook Day,” which is a party on the day the yearbooks arrive for seniors.

“ We have to get our yearbooks before school is out. Yearbook Day is one of the highlights of senior year. Yearbook Day is more popular than prom,” said Reggie White, senior.

This shows right here how important Yearbook Day is to the seniors. Rodney Stephens, yearbook advisor, talked to me about the problem with getting computers to finish the yearbook.

“It’s great that the school board is moving so quickly on the request. I know it will be somewhat costly for the district. MacWorld in southside agreed to let us rent four Macintosh computers with the necessary software for $500 for three weeks. Yearbook Day for seniors is one of the most beloved traditions at the school. If the school doesn’t approve the $500 expenditure, I am not sure what we will do. I would rather not think that way. I am hoping for the best and crossing my fingers.”

This year the yearbook team was looking to add even more coverage to the book.

“This year we pushed our final yearbook deadline back as far as we could to add more coverage to the book. Our yearbook representative warned us that if we didn’t make the deadline, the chances of the book arriving before summer break were slim. We were confident this would not be a problem. in fact, before this computer hacking problem, we were ahead of schedule.”

I spoke to Ed Robles the district technology director.

“ Whoever hacked into our system is bright. They didn’t leave many traces. I don’t think it was a student. This is some pretty sophisticated hacking. The police are getting closer to the hacker, though. He or she left us a few bread crumbs for us to follow.”

My article is about the United States and how they had to reroute one of their aircraft in order to maintain safe distance from a Russian plane. The title of my article is, “U.S. plane in Syria forced to avoid Russian aircraft.”
I got my article from USA Today. In my article a U.S. plane had to be rerouted to maintain safe distance from a Russian plane coordinating airstrikes over Syria. Russia has recently launched airstrikes against the Islamic State. The U.S. and Russia are by no means coordinating attacks with each other. I think it’s ridiculous that our relations are that bad. We shouldn’t have to maintain a “safe distance.” This affects me because if a war was to start between us and Russia I and tons of other people could be killed. This event greatly impacts the world because of the deadly potential. The U.S.-Russia relations are so unstable that not much could start a possible nuclear war. If nuclear war was to start between the two nations millions would be dead. Not to mention how many other countries would be drawn in to the war or be affected.
